Need Advice on Using Filters for TRACO Power TRN 1-1212 DC/DC Converter

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a project that involves using the TRACO Power DC/DC converter TRN 1-1212. I’ve read through the datasheet, but I’m still a bit unsure about whether it’s necessary to include filter circuits for this component. Specifically, I’m wondering:

Is an input filter required before the TRN 1-1212 to ensure stable operation or to reduce noise?
Should I also consider adding an output filter to further clean the output signal and reduce ripple?
Any recommendations on the types of filters (capacitor, inductor values, etc.) would be greatly appreciated, as well as any practical tips for ensuring optimal performance with this converter.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @wissem.zayoud,

Welcome to the TechForum.

The best place to start is with the TRN 1-1212 is the application notes or here.

The typical (recommend) values are located in the note.

Please let us know if you need help selecting the components.

Best wishes,

Hello @APDahlen ,

Thank you so much for your support—I truly appreciate your assistance, it was incredibly helpful.

Regarding, the selection of the components, I am working with TRN 1-1212 and with class A because the system needs a single output model, so I am choosing these components:

just a question, what does the 1206 MLCC mean?

I will upload the application note in case anyone else needs these files.

Best regards,
ZayoudW.

Hello @wissem.zayoud,

Glad we could help.

The 1206 number identifies of a surface mount multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs)

Sincerely,

Aaron
