Current sense resistors also known as shunt resistors, are a common and inexpensive way to accurately measure current in your system.
Chassis mount current sense resistors have test points at both ends to facilitate connection of a testing instrument. This resistor is generally available in very low ohmic values with very tight tolerances (from less than 0.05Ω to 100kΩ), so that only a very small voltage drop is caused. They’re ideal Wheatstone bridge applications.
You may find that this type of resistor is designed to be physically mounted onto heatsinks or metal plates to further dissipate the generated heat. Mounting the resistor onto a heatsink increases its current carrying capabilities even further.
