Soldering Conditions for Box Capacitors of FFB, FSB, FFV3 and FAV3 series from KYOCERA AVX

We often receive questions concerning the soldering profiles or conditions for FFB, FSB, FFV3 and FAV3 series box capacitors from KYOCERA AVX (for example: FFV36L0905K– or FFB36C0395K–) . Before soldering, one should know the maximum temperature and the duration for applying the preheating, solder iron thickness (tip diameter) and operation duration.

For Wave Soldering process the maximum solder temperature cycle is:

  • Preheating at +85°C - +100°C for a duration of 30s/60s
  • +250°C for a duration of 3s or +230°C for a duration of 6s

For Hand Soldering process, the conditions are as follows:

  • Typical Iron width: 10mm
  • Maximum Iron temperature: +350°C
  • Maximum duration of the solder operation: 3s
  • Typical Solder Diameter: 1.2mm
