Hey there, my old Macbook Pro decided to stop working however I have the hard drive that I desperately need to transfer to my Macbook Air. I can’t seem to find a compatible reader anywhere and wondered if someone could help please?
Hi @rob1 that is not a Factory Apple SSD for the A1708…
Here’s a youtube video I found, of what device/adapter the A1708 shipped with…
Can you please move your thumb, and take photo of the top and bottom of the 3rd party ssd.
I’m betting it’s a standard m.2 ssd…
When you removed that ssd from your Macbook Pro, was it plugged into something like this:
Edit:
Since it’s now a standard NVMe SSD, standard adapters would work…
(assuming the device wasn’t encrypted by the original Apple Macbook A1708)
Regards,
Thank you for your reply please see attached a photo of the SSD and the adapter. I’ve tried adding the item to the basket, however it doesn’t seem to be working.
Many thanks,
Rob.
Hi @rob1 thanks for the picture, sorry my link was for MarketPlace product, it’s only available in some regions…
Another option would be:
But this is a generic NVMe m2 drive, so any adapter on amazon should also work…
Regards,
Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve ordered something but am unsure if it’ll work or not as I haven’t had much luck so far! Do you know what I should be searching for or would it be possible to reply with an Amazon link at all please?
Many thanks,
Rob.
As long as it supports PCI-E; NGFF M.2 nVME SSD… If it ‘only’ supports mSATA that would be an issue… (it can support both mSATA and nVME)…
