So I’ve got an old clock radio tv and one of the switches has broken. They are made by alps and I’m under no assumption I will find identical ones but id like help finding comparable ones. I’ve included a photo from the top of the board showing two good and one bad switch.
Forgot to mention they are 8 pin six together then a gap before the final two.
Hello theinsolentfish,
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.
Do you know how many positions the switch can be in, like one way or the other, or is there a center position? Also, do you know what pins will connect with each position?
I see the destroyed switch. Do you have the switch top, to see what it looks like inside? Can maybe determine what gets connected as the switch moves.
Also would the destroyed switch’s body have any model numbers on it?
So the existing housing basically crumbled into several tiny pieces, it practically exploded when I switched it likely due to age, and I can find no labels. I desoldered and removed the bottom part and it had no labels as well there were two sliders one on each side they are two segments long. The switch had three positions in the clock circuit /set/lock/time/ you can almost see the positions with the rails on the old one that broke. I attempted to buy some basic uxell switches from Amazon and found the pin locations to be slightly wider then those and could not get it to fit even with slightly aggressive manipulation of the pins. If I get the chance this evening I will break out the calipers and take measurements of the existing switches exteriors as well as pin distances center to center on the pcb.
So the switches housing is 13.22 x 6.5mm the holes are 2.77mm apart on the 6.5 mm axis and the six that are close are 2mm apart on the long axis the gap between the six and the two is 3.58mm I’m assuming they were made in standard dimensions rather then metric. I can do a diagram if needed the switches are about 5mm tall but getting the caliper in there to measure is difficult. The prong on top is 3.92mm x 2.42mm
Okay, I will do some more looking.
Would you have images of the bottom for our reference?
An option found so far.
CKC5111-ND
Was was the model of the overall device?
I wonder if anyone has image for the unexploded / undisintegrated switch?
So the original device is an Sanyo tpm2140 portable tv radio clock from 1979. I have the Sam diagrams but it lists a Sanyo specific part number and does nott show the original switch diagrams at all. Sanyo part is 4 2311 10370 slide switch. I have included the diagram of the pcb and the wiring for the clock module only as it shows the pinouts for the switch. The Sam diagrams for this model are available freely online so I don’t think there should be an issue sharing them. It is switch three that failed but I am concerned the other two might go as well.
Once you are able to measurements of the pin holes can help.
Did the option given earlier work for you?
No the Pinout appears incorrect for the holes on the pcb.
Based on your description and explination, seems the slide switch you’re looking for would be a PCB through hole mounted, 3 on positions; I assume single pole triple throw SP3T but not sure here.
Unfortunately we cannot filter by the pinout spacing in our online catalogue. If you know any other parameters of the switch you can take a look through some that I filtered by on-on-on function and PCB through hole termination here:
Take a look at remaining filters and see if you can locate something close, then you would have to verify the pinout and spacing by looking at the appropriate data sheet.
Hope that helps.
Hi @theinsolentfish ,
A switch from C&K may fit to the footprint. No stock though.
Note that slide switches come in two types, make-before-break and break-before-make. Depending of the application it may be a critical parameter.
