Taiwan Semiconductor, TS4148C vs. non-'C': What does this 'C' mean?

Taiwan Semiconductor offers diodes under the part number TS4148, and has done so for quite some time. Older versions of this number had a ‘C’ suffix, as in TS4148C RCG, while the newer version of the part might look more like TS4148 RCG. What does this ‘C’ indicate, and are the newer parts with no ‘C’ still compatible?

As sleuthed out by our technical staff, this seems to be a matter of evolving part numbering. The manufacturer used to use the final three digits of the part number - the ‘RCG’, in this case - to denote the reel size of the parts being shipped and the ‘C’ to indicate the package size of the component. In newer products however, Taiwan Semi has standardized on a single reel specification and as such they currently use the last three digits of the part number to indicate product package size, instead.

Due to this, it is recommended to check your old Taiwan Semi part numbers against the specifications of newer devices, to ensure package size remains consistent. if this is the case however, you should absolutely be good to go.
