Technical verification: Piher PTC10 with Switch (-S) and Thumbwheel compatibility

------Question for PT10LV10-103A2020-S Please Put your question below------

Hi everyone,

I am designing a portable device and I need to confirm the exact configuration for a Piher 10mm potentiometer to ensure it matches my PCB footprint and ergonomic requirements.

Product focus:

  • Base Part Number: PTC10 series (Cermet).

  • Required Configuration: 10k Ohms, Linear (A), Horizontal mount, Y-version (Adjustable from terminal side).

  • Critical Option: I strictly need the integrated ON/OFF switch (Suffix -S).

My questions for the Tech Team:

  1. Pin Count: Can you confirm that the version with the “-S” switch option has a total of 5 pins (3 for the resistor + 2 for the switch)?

  2. Thumbwheel compatibility: Is this specific assembly compatible with the thumbwheel accessory JPEPL5034NE? I need the wheel to be as flush as possible to the PCB (Y-version).

  3. Availability: If the “-S” version is not currently in stock, what is the exact full manufacturer part number I should look for to ensure I get the 5-pin switch version?

Attached is a reference of the style of thumbwheel interface I am aiming for.

Thanks for your help!

Greetings,

The product series datasheet would appear to indicate that a switch function is specified by a value of zero in the resistance portion of the part number, rather than a “-S” suffix.

An SPDT switch requires 3 terminals, so a ganged assembly of switch and potentiometer would have at least 6 terminals.

It does not appear to be so; a combined switch + pot function would require a longer actuator as suggested in the datasheet, figure 18

Again, the switch function appears to be specified via the resistance portion of the part number rather than via the -S suffix, and a switch + pot assembly would have 6 terminals, rather than 5. Ordering a switch device, pot, and actuator separately and assembling them oneself wold seem to be the most forthright way of obtaining the desired function using this product series, however a thumbwheel with the extended length required for a 2-gang assembly does not appear to be listed as a standard product.
