Toggle Switch Guard

Planning on using the Bulgin C3900BE toggle switch, and have purchased the associated TG1-RED guard for the switch. Unfortunately, this guard forces the toggle switch to the OFF state when closed.

I’m looking for a guard that will protect the toggle from changing states accidentally, but will not force it to change state when the guard is closed.

Does this exist for the Bulgin C3900BE toggle switch?

Hello gregk,

Welcome to the TechForum. Is it possible to get a picture from your issue? We don’t have much for toggle safety covers. I would check this part number 1734-08-0-0-01905-ND and compare the drawings for the TG1-RED linked HERE and my suggestion linked HERE. Compare these and see if they are compatible and a proper fit for your switch. The reason I recommend 1734-08-0-0-01905-ND is the cover has the hole on the cover that may prevent the switch from turning off. Possibly swapping the switch with a shorter actuator may help too. Let me know.

Best regards,

Jon

The toggle switch format consisting of a 15/32" (~12mm) bushing and 17.5mm(±) actuator length is somewhat generic/standard, allowing for a high degree of compatibility between switches and accessories from various vendors.

Among covers of the type, the force-off sort of function described is probably the most common to the extent of not being mentioned in a lot of datasheets/drawings for such. Various other options do exist; this APEM brochure does nicely at illustrating the differences. Unfortunately availability starts becoming an issue when one wants something that’s less common, and novelty seems to carry a price…

Browsing through the Switch Accessory family where such items and their kin live may feed some other ideas. Selection fidelity admittedly isn’t great there, but a person can narrow the options pretty rapidly by excluding things that are clearly out of scope.

Thank you @rick_1976
Agreed… most datasheets don’t specify this feature and define what happens to the toggle actuator when closed.
The APEM you shared does a great job, but as you mentioned the price tag is out in left field.
I was able to find another that does define this on the datasheet… Otto’s TG-00006 (a.k.a. MS27752-1). Unfortunately, this line is not carried by DigiKey, but it does appear to be equivalent to the APEM 206PN at a much more reasonable price.

Thanks for your help!
