Teltonika

Webinar Date: December 16, 2025

Key Takeaways

  • Monitor and Configure: Discover how to keep track of your devices from anywhere, all through a single, secure interface.

  • Simplify IoT Deployments: See how RMS can drastically reduce downtime and simplify even the most complex deployments.

  • Efficient Operations: Learn best practices for onboarding new devices, performing firmware updates, and troubleshooting remotely—without ever needing to step foot in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a matrix to show Device/Hardware with RMS functions

  • We are confirming an official device vs RMS feature matrix with HQ that clearly shows which RMS functions are universal and which depend on specific hardware capabilities. Once finalized, this will be shared externally for customer reference.

As you said, these are industrial devices so they are expected to be reliable. How rigorous is the testing of the packages featured on the packages list for the latest firmware version? I had cases where uninstalling a package e.g. l2tp server package would misconfigure the zones and block all access to the router after which it needs factory reset. Can something be done about these reliability issues.

  • All firmware packages are tested as part of the full RutOS release, including dependency checks. Some packages (e.g. VPN or firewall-related services like L2TP) are tightly integrated with networking and security rules. Removing them without adjusting related settings (firewall zones, interfaces) can lead to loss of access.

  • For production deployments, we recommend keeping core networking/security packages installed and using configuration-based enable/disable instead of uninstalling. If customers have a specific use case that requires removing packages, our support team can advise which components are safe to modify and how to avoid lockouts. Additional safeguards and guidance are continuously being improved in RutOS.

In teltonika vpn is it possible to choose if the data is going over the teltonika server? Is there an option to use the teltonika server just for introduction handshake (similar to ZeroTier)?

  • RMS VPN:** Traffic is routed through Teltonika cloud servers, as the VPN hub is hosted within RMS. Devices connect as clients and traffic is forwarded via the RMS VPN server.

  • IPsec / OpenVPN / WireGuard:** These are fully independent of Teltonika infrastructure when customers host the VPN endpoints themselves. No customer data is routed through Teltonika servers in this case.

How does RMS handle remote access when devices are behind NAT or have no public IP?

  • When establishing a connection, there is no need for a public IP address. The device itself is connected to RMS.

Can we define custom alert or automation rules — for example, trigger alerts on temperature, mobile-signal drop, data-usage threshold, or geofence events?

  • Yes, you can set up these rules for the parameters you would like to define.

Does RMS provide firmware-update / backup management across a fleet, and how is that managed?

  • Yes, there are firmware updates and backup management. This is managed directly from our device.

What kind of API functionality does RMS provide, and how mature/stable is it for integration with external systems?

  • There is full capability under RMS with multiple API functionalities. It is very stable, according to the feedback under the automation itself. Stability is very important under the API.

How is security enforced end-to-end — especially for remote access, authentication, and data transfer?

  • There is a certificate for each remote access, allowing connection to the RMS. In that case, everything is encrypted and secure. There is also a dedicated security team with Teltonika itself.

What are real-world examples of RMS being used for mixed fleets across different industries — and what were the main challenges encountered?

  • Custom commands being sent from video computers to multiple large digital screens. Some other examples are European cop cars, ambulances, and traffic lights.

What kinds of third-party (non-Teltonika) devices can RMS manage/access via CONNECT or VPN?

  • You can connect to any device; there are no limitations.

Is there SMS input to network devices?

  • Yes, there are SIM card inserts to send and receive SMS commands over the device.

How much cellular data does the connection to RMS use?

  • The amount of data that you use is up to you, depending on what the application consists of.

Can traffic rules be used to allow incoming RMS traffic but block other internet traffic?

  • Yes, this can be achieved.
