Some of the biggest factors that go into deciding which Ethernet (Network) cables to use are speed, shielding, and cable length for your home network. Ethernet cables are conveniently divided into groups based on how that cable performs. The groups are called CAT ratings. When looking at upgrading your home network you need to make sure that your ISP can produce speeds that your cables can handle, but also recognize that if your ISP is only providing 1 Gbps its unnecessary to have CAT 7 cables in your home.
