Question:
What may have caused a basic switch failure?
Answer:
Failures of a basic switch may be caused by the following two reasons:
- Failures related to electrical characteristics: contact failure, malfunction, contact welding, insulation degradation
- Failures related to mechanical characteristics: operating failure, external damage
Explanation:
The following electrical or mechanical characteristics failure may cause the failure of the basic switch.
Quick tips
A relatively common cause of switch failure is deformation of the actuator lever. If the actuator lever is deformed as shown in the photo below, the switch will not work even if the actuator lever is operated, or the load for operating the switch will be too high to operate. This malfunction happened because something got caught in the lever and deformed it. As shown in the photo, when the bending angle of the lever increases or the backlash of the lever increases, the actuator lever has deformed.
