IMEI numbers are an important identifier code and component of cellular networks. These identifiers are a key underpinning of the modern cellular network, and we frequently get questions concerning whether our RF devices ship with IMEI numbers and if so, what those numbers are - even for devices such as RF transceivers, modems, and other similar equipment. Do these devices come with IMEI numbers?
As a rule, only devices intended to live on cellular networks come with IMEI numbers. RF devices that do not interact with cellular networks, such as Bluetooth, Wifi, or other standards, do not need, cannot use, and thus do not come with IMEI numbers. Cellular products that are intended for evaluation, such as Analog Devices’ ADRV9361-Z7035 board, aren’t issued IMEI numbers as those devices aren’t intended for long-term use on cellular networks.
