929500-01-36-RK is categorized as a breakaway header, but the datasheet is a little unclear in some areas. This post aims to clear up some of those details. At first, I thought the part may been put in the wrong category because the top drawing didn’t show any perforations. I wasn’t 100% certain that the notches in parts like these indicated it was a break-away type.
Top Down Drawing
The notches do indicate that the part is break-away. That being said, they don’t always break cleanly. That is the reason for a notch. I didn’t notice there was a note about this the first time either. Note A says the following in the datasheet:
“A = .10” [2.5] x pin quantity per row. Dimension A is a maximum when the pin strip is cut to legnth, not when the strip is broken to length."
I approached this differently the first time though, I looked at the side view and saw that there were clear perforation lines in the same spot as the notches. The top view may be missing this line for a number of reasons, but that is why the notches are there.
Side View
It may be best to cut the part rather than use your hands for the cleanest break.
