Some customers may be interested in finding material changes between part numbers for Altera chips. It can be a little difficult to know where to look to find if there are major material differences between a ROHS 5 and a ROHS6 replacement, for example.
Example: EP2AGX45CU17I5N and EP2AGX45CU17I5G
EP2AGX45CU17I5G is a replacement for EP2AGX45CU17I5N due to changing ROHS guidelines. EP2AGX45CU17I5G is a ROHS 6 compliant item while the other part is an obsolete part that is ROHS 5 compliant. How do you find the documentation with the material change?
Step 1: Navigate to the Quality and Reliability Page on Altera’s page
The quality and reliability is available Intel’s home page. It is found under the “Support” tab at the top of the page, here is the link for convenience. You should see some icons in the center like the picture below.
Step 2: Click Package Drawings
There should be a list on the left hand side. Under Package, Mechanical, and SMT Resources, click Packing Drawings.
Step 3: Find the Right Family
Find the applicable family/series for the device you are searching for. In this case it is Arria II.
Step 4: Locate the Relevant Document (G and P Suffix)
You can use “CTRL+F” to narrow down the beginning part of the part number, in this case it is “EP2AGX45.” Make sure to cross reference the right number of pins and Supplier Package name. This has 358 pins and is marked as a UBGA as a supplier package name.
