Alternative part for H23B1 emitter-detector pair

I am trying to locate an alternative part number/part to replace an emitter-detector pairing on a Rockola jukebox. The original part number is H23B1 - but this part is obsolete. Without this LED pairing, I can’t get this thing running. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Jester,
I can offer a solution for a IR emitter and a phototransistor for your consideration.

Phototransistor - 1080-1163-ND

To work with the above mentioned phototransistor.

Best regards,

Thanks, I will give those a try.

Thanks for the reply - I do not believe that would work for the design situation, but I appreciate the help.

We may be able to help further if you post some pics of the parts you are looking for and the design space they go in.

This is the layout on the opto board for this jukebox. The upper optos find ‘home’ for the actual record carriage. The lower optos count slots in the encoder wheel that tell the control unit where it is on the carousel. It is a very simple electro-mechanical - but if a component fails, the systems will not work.

Correct me if I am wrong but that appears to be 3 parts not one, I think Troy was on the right track for the upper two (here is the datasheet for H23B1, looks like it was sold as a pair but one from each list Troy gave should work as a replacement). If you need the bottom one it is going to be like the ones in the links below, this is on the assumption that it is a through hole part like the others, if it is not attached that way let us know and we can look at other mounting types.

The biggest problem I see now is narrowing it down. Do you have any specs for the bottom one. In particular we need to figure out the output configuration. You will also need to take the dimensions from yours and review datasheets to find ones of similar size. I am going to flag our engineers on this and see if they have some ideas for narrowing down the search.

It is 3 parts, technically. The H23B1 was considered a matching pair (1 part number) back in 1980 when this jukebox was manufactured. They are all pass-through. The lower opto is currently working - but would be nice to know the replacement part number in case it fails. It is the upper pair that has the issue. This pair tells the record carousel where it’s ‘Home’ position is…without seeing this, the jukebox will not work - it just continuously spins the carousel around. Thanks for the help.
