Amphenol USB3FTV7AN Extension

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the Amphenol USB3FTV7AN connector.

Is it possible to add a 3-meter extension to an installed Amphenol USB3FTV7AN receptacle on a component, with another Amphenol USB3FTV7AN receptacle at the other end of the extension cable? The end receptacle would also need a protective cap/cover when not in use.

If this is feasible, what components would be required for such an extension assembly (mating connectors, cable type, receptacle, protective cap, etc.)?

Thank you for your help.

Hello widyaashari,

We have some compatible protective caps linked HERE, we also have an option that includes a self-closing cap, USB3F2BSCC. If you want to run USB cable from one USB3FTV7ANF312 to another and USB 3.0 transfer rates are required, we have some options of USB cables linked HERE

Hello Mitch,

Thank you for the information.

To clarify, I would like to create a 3-meter USB extension adapter assembly for an existing Amphenol USB3FTV7AN receptacle installed on a component.

The intended configuration is:

  • One end connects to the existing USB3FTV7AN receptacle on the component.
  • A 3-meter USB 3.0 cable is used as the extension.
  • The other end provides another Amphenol USB3FTV7AN receptacle as the new external USB interface.
  • The new external receptacle should have a protective cap or self-closing cover when not in use.

Could you please confirm whether this configuration can be made using a USB 3.0 Type-A male-to-male cable, such as U325-015, connected between the existing USB3FTV7AN receptacle and a USB3F2BSCC receptacle?

Or is there another recommended connector/cable configuration to create this USB3FTV7AN extension adapter properly?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi widyaashari,

I did not find a 3 meter integrated cable version with the USB3FTV7AN attached, but I did find a very similar one with a square flange type mounting bracket rather than the jam nut mounting here (unfortunately, it’s quite pricey):

The longest integrated cable version with the jam nut is this:

If you just want to use a standard male-to-male USB3 cable between two USB3FTV7AN connector adapters, then the following cap can be used:

If, instead you used the square-flanged USB3FTV2AN alternative to the jam nut style USB3FTV7AN on each end, then you could use the following self-closing cap:

For the cable itself, we do not keep the Amphenol Socapex standard USB cables stocked. If you need a USB 3.x USB-A male-to-male cable, the following potential options:

Other 3 meter USB 3.x USB-A male-to-male possible options.

Thank you, David.

To clarify, I do not mean simply plugging both USB-A male ends of a standard USB 3.x male-to-male cable into two panel receptacles.

My intended assembly would be:

Existing USB3FTV7AN receptacle → 3 m USB 3.x cable → remote USB panel interface with a self-closing cap.

At the remote end, would it be possible to cut off one USB-A male connector from the cable and terminate the cable conductors and shield directly into a USB3F2BSCC receptacle?

In other words, is USB3F2BSCC designed for direct cable termination at its rear side, or is it only a USB-A receptacle-to-receptacle adapter that requires a USB-A plug to be inserted?

If direct cable termination is not possible, could you please recommend the correct Amphenol part numbers or cable assembly for a 3 m cable with:

  • USB3FTV7AN connection at the existing component end; and
  • a remote panel-mounted USB interface with a protective cap.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi widyaashari,

Two points about the USB3F2BSCC:

First, unlike the USB3FTV7AN, the USB3F2BSCC does not have a threaded external interface designed for external mating of a USB cable with a circular housing for secure sealed connection. I assumed you needed that, based on the mention of the USB3FTV7AN, which does have such an interface, in your original post.

  • Do you need a panel mount USB 3.0 connector which can mate with an external USB cable with a threaded circular connection, or one that will only mate with a standard USB 3.x cable (no threaded circular connection)?

Second, both the USB3F2BSCC and the USB3FTV7AN have standard USB 3.x type A connections on their back sides. Neither are designed to have direct cable terminations at their rear sides. They are both essentially pass-through double-sided USB 3.x type A receptacles.

Here’s a link to our panel-mount USB 3.x type A connectors with solderable rear contacts. None of these have integrated protective caps, though several probably have options available as an accessory.

For example, the previously mentioned USBFTVSCCN spring closing cap can work with the USB3FTV2SANF459 square-flanged USB connector with PC-mount type rear-facing pins. And, the previously-mentioned USBFTVC7N screw-on cap would work for several of the USB3FTV7SAxxx variants in the above link.

The above-mentioned CAUSB3FTV2AZN30 is a panel-mount USB 3.0 type A receptacle with an integrated 3m cable with USB type A plug, which could be plugged into the existing USB3FTV7AN. The previously mentioned USBFTVSCCN spring-closing protective cap would be compatible with it.
