Arrays, Signal Transformers

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Arrays, Signal Transformers category on DigiKey.com

Transformer-type inductor arrays are inductors having two or more windings which are not electrically connected internally, but which are magnetically coupled within the device. Also known as coupled inductors, the choice of external connection allows their use for different purposes such as common or differential mode filtering and voltage transformation.

SelectionCharacteristics

Number of Coils: The number of windings contained within the inductor array/transformer; windings typically share a core and are magnetically coupled.

Inductance - Connected In Parallel: Typical total inductance when all coils in the array are connected in parallel.

Inductance - Connected In Series: Typical total inductance when all coils in the array are connected in series.

Tolerance: Characterizes the extent of permitted variability of overall device inductance among samples of a given part number, resulting from variations in manufacturing.

Current Rating - Parallel: Current rating for the device with all windings connected in parallel, typically based on a change in device temperature.

Current Rating - Series: Current rating for the device with all windings connected in series, typically based on a change in device temperature.

Current Saturation - Parallel: Typical current flow that results in a specified loss of inductance, with all windings connected in parallel.

Current Saturation - Series: Typical current flow that results in a spacified loss of inductance, with all windings connected in series.

DC Resistance (DCR) - Parallel: The DC resistance of the device with all windings connected in parallel.

DC Resistance (DCR) - Series: The DC resistance of the device with all windings connected in series.

Shielding: Whether or not the device possesses an electrically insulating barrier that helps to reduce or eliminate electromagnetic interference.

Ratings: Minimum performance standards of the device, which are typically set by a third party.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the supplier’s device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Size/Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device. Typically length X width.

Height: Indicates how far the device will extend above the surface to which it has been attached.
