To find the correct mate, select the proper connector type, number of positions, and pitch along with other preferred specifications.

  • Plugs only mate with receptacles or headers.
  • Female sockets only mate with the correct number of male pins. Row count must also match - single-row connectors do not mate with dual or triple-row connectors.
  • The connectors’ pitches must match. A 3.96mm pitch Universal MATE-N-LOK connector will not mate with a 5.08mm pitch Universal MATE-N-LOK connector even if all other specifications are correct.
  • Pay attention to fastening type. “Latch Lock” and “Latch Holder” usually pairs with “Locking Ramp”, but occasionally TE will throw you a curveball. “Push-Pull” indicates the connector does not have positive retention and is held in place with simple friction.

Contacts

  • Loose piece packaging (bag, box, bulk) work with hand crimpers; tape packaging works with automated machines.
  • Pin contacts only mate with socket contacts.
  • Wire gauge must be correct to properly fit wire and meet crimp specifications.
  • It is recommended that contacts intended to mate share the same contact finish - gold to gold, and tin to tin.
  • Thicker contact finish thickness allows for more mating cycles and/or more protection in harsh environments. Thinner contact finish reduces price.
  • Most Universal MATE-N-LOK connectors list their associated contacts on their product page. You can use this to quickly select or verify your chosen contacts.

  • Verify the crimper is compatible with both your die set and compatible with the exact contact you are attempting to crimp.
  • Wire gauge must be correct to meet proper crimp specifications.
  • Select the proper die set for tools without integrated dies. These are typically located near the bottom of the crimper product page under the “For Use With” section.
