If you notice any irregularities - such as peeling of the termination - on the Vishay T59EE476M050E0100 capacitor, as shown in the images below, please refer to the manufacturer’s response provided.
According to Vishay, the phenomenon is not peeling and is not detrimental to the part function. The phenomenon can be categorized as two separate issues: irregularity on the top and irregularities on the sides.
Top:
The top side of the capacitor is marked on the anode side to clearly distinguish it from the cathode. Lack of metallization on the top side of the capacitor has no effect on electrical or mechanical performance of the part.
In the below example, 4 pcs from PN T54EE476M050ESA100 have uniform anodes and varying cathodes. Despite that, all four capacitors have a clearly visible solder meniscus on each side, which is solid evidence of proper attachment to the board. To reiterate, lack of metallization on the top of the capacitor would not have any effect on performance in this case.
The non-uniform metallization could have resulted from some mechanical impact during board mounting or cleaning process, but it is difficult to determine without additional process details.
Sides:
The solderable layer on the sides of the capacitor is not a part of the “Solderable area” and was omitted from later lots. Its removal has no negative effect on capacitor performance.
In Y2022, plating of terminations was purposely changed from wraparound (covering fully one side and partially - 4 sides) to 3 sides.
