Coaxial Cables (RF)

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Coaxial Cables (RF) category on DigiKey.com

Coaxial Cables (RF) are devices designed to connect high frequency circuits together. These devices come in a wide variety of styles, sizes, and work best up to a specific frequency.

SelectionCharacteristics

Cable Type: Indicates the physical form or structure of the cable.

Cable Group: Indicates the type of cable material the cable is designed to conform to, in terms of standard designations or manufacturer model number.

Wire Gauge: Indicates the nominal gauge rating of the cable.

Conductor Strand: Indicates how many individual strands of metal the core conductor(s) the cable is composed of, and what size or gauge rating those individual strands are.

Jacket (Insulation) Material: Indicates the material composition of the outermost jacketing of the cable.

Jacket (Insulation) Diameter: Indicates the diameter of a cable/wire product’s outermost layer; a product’s overall thickness.

Shield Type: Indicates the construction method of the cable’s EMI insulating barrier layers, with a description for each layer of shielding incorporated within the cable.

Impedance: Identifies the effective resistance of the device to alternating current. It is comprised of resistance and reactance. It is measured in Ohm’s and uses the metric system for values.

Impedance Matching

Length: Indicates the length of the cable.

Jacket Color: Indicates the dominant color of the outermost insulation layer of a wire or cable product.

Usage: The typical expected usage the manufacturer designed the cable for.

Features: These are different capabilities of the device such as drain wire, direct burial, or non-magnetic.
