Coaxial Connector (RF) Contacts

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Coaxial Connector (RF) Contacts category on DigiKey.com

Coaxial connector contacts are interconnect system components sold separately from the housings in which they are typically mounted to form a completed connector system. They are intended for use with coaxial cable materials, which consist of multiple concentric conductors constructed so as to make a suitable transmission line for high frequency signals.

SelectionCharacteristics

Cable Group: Indicates the type(s) of cable material with which a connector is intended for use, in terms of standard designations or manufacturer model number.

Center Conductor Diameter: Indicates the largest diameter conductor a contact is designed to accommodate, typically applying to a center conductor in a coaxial cable.

Wire Gauge: The wire size or size range with which a product is designed for use, expressed in terms of American Wire Gauge.

Contact Termination: Identifies how the contact attaches to the wire, such as crimp or solder.

Pin or Socket: Indicates whether or not the contact is pin or socket, and the contact location if applicable.

Type: The connector styles/types for which the contact is intended for use.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Impedance: Identifies the effective resistance of the device to alternating current. It is comprised of resistance and reactance. It is measured in Ohm’s and uses the metric system for values. Due to the impedance matching requirements, it’s important to use the right contact.

Impedance Matching

Contact Material: Indicates the material composition of the contact.

Contact Finish: Indicates the finish/plating material applied to the contact.

Contact Finish Thickness: Indicates the thickness of the finish/plating material applied to the contact.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as locking latch or spring latch.

Board Thickness: Indicates the nominal thickness of circuit boards to which a product is designed to be directly attached.
