Conductive paint

Hi,
I hope I’m in the correct category.
I’m looking at the conductive paint pens by MG Chemicals. My circuit is 12 V DC, 1.0 to .5 ma. (controls model railroad signals). Can I use the carbon base or do I need the nickel or silver based paint for this type circuit?
Thank you!

A few milliamps of current would be fine for the material. We are checking with the supplier to see if they have any ampacity ratings for the material. I will update if the mfg provides the details.

Thanks!!

Hi hammerb52 ,

Unfortunately there has been no response from the manufacturer yet.

However, carbon based is used for when high conductivity is not required, or when a resistive type of conductor is needed for voltage reduction, since carbon is typically used to make resistors which will slow down current and drop voltage.

For higher power applications requiring lower resistance and minimal voltage drop, use the Nickel or Silver based since these are considered to be better conductors.

Click here for a few various options, it will be best to look through the datasheets to verify which one will work best for your application, and the datasheets may also list what type of conductivity they feature and what type of applications they work best.
