Spring-loaded contacts, also known as “pogo pins” in reference to the toy they resemble, are commonly used to establish electrical contact between two objects whose relative mechanical position cannot be well-controlled, or a connector system tolerant of frequent mating/unmating cycles is desirable. Charging cradles for cordless handheld devices such as bar code scanners and mobile radios are a common example. Contact pads used to create a durable, corrosion-resistant surface for spring-loaded contacts to bear against are also included within this product family.


SelectionCharacteristics

Contact Type: Indicates the specific style of the contacts.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Maximum Working Height: The maximum height of the plunger while fully un-compressed.

Recommended Working Height: The recommended height of the plunger while under load.

Minimum Working Height: The minimum recommended height of the plunger while fully compressed.

Pad Layout Dimension: The size of the board pad needed to terminate the item to the board.

Operating Force - Initial: Characterizes the amount of fource that must be applied to a device’s actuator to cause a change of device position from the start of compression. Measured under manufacturer-defined test conditions.

Operating Force - Mid Compression: Characterizes the amount of fource that must be applied to a device’s actuator to cause a change of device position from the mid point of compression. Measured under manufacturer-defined test conditions.

Plunger Size: The diameter or length-by-width shape of the plunger/actuator.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as conical tip, round tip, or IP Rating.

IP Ratings


IP (Ingress Protection) ratings such as (IP20, IP65, IP67, etc.) define how likely water and dirt will get into the system. The first number represents dirt and solid contaminants while the second represents water and liquids.

Solids Liquids
1 Protected against solids larger than 50mm. Protected against vertically falling drops of water. Limited Ingress permitted.
2 Protected against solids larger than 12.5mm. Protected against vertically falling drops of water with the enclosure tilted up to 15 degrees from vertical. Limited ingress permitted.
3 Protected against solids larger than 2.5mm. Protected against spraying water up to 60 degrees from vertical. Limited ingress permitted for 3 minutes.
4 Protected against solids larger than 1mm. Protected against water splashed from any direction. Limited ingress permitted.
5 Protected against dust. Limited ingress of dust permitted. Will not affect operation of equipment 2-8 hours. Protected against jets of water. Limited ingress permitted.
6 Dust tight. No ingress of dust 2-8 hours. Protected against powerful jets of water. Limited ingress permitted.
7 ______________________ Protected against the effects of immersion in 15cm-1m for 30 minutes.
8 ______________________ Continuous immersion in water up to 3m for long periods of time.
9 ______________________ Protected against high pressure jets of hot water. (30 seconds)
9K ______________________ Protected against high pressure jets of hot water. (2 minutes)

Mating Cycles: Indicates the number of times the device can be actuated while also meeting/maintaining nominal specifications.

Contact Material: Indicates the material composition of the contacts.

Contact Finish: Indicates the finish/plating material applied to the contacts of the device.

Contact Finish Thickness: Indicates the thickness of the finish/plating material applied to the contacts.
