This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Current Sense Transformers category on DigiKey.com
Current Sense Transformers are designed to detect and measure current flow in an isolated conductor or a primary winding and produce a proportional alternating current in a secondary winding. The frequency range is 2 Hz to 1 MHz with a current rating of 125 mA to 4000 A. The three types are Invasive, Non-Invasive (Solid Core), and Non-Invasive (Split Core).
SelectionCharacteristics
Frequency Range: This represents the frequency range to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this frequency may cause erratic performance or damage the device and other system components.
Type: Refers to the specific configuration or design of the current sensing mechanism used in the transformer.
Current Rating (Amps): Typically this represents the maximum current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.
Inductance: Characterizes the inductance of a current sense transformer’s secondary winding.
ET (Volt-Time): Describes magnetic limitations of a transformer in terms of the maximum product of amplitude and duration of a rectangular pulse that can be applied to the primary winding without saturation.
Turns Ratio - Primary:Secondary: Indicates the ratio between the number of turns on a device’s primary winding and it’s secondary winding, as designated by the manufacturer.
Current Ratio: The part’s current transformation ratio, as stated by the manufacturer.
DC Resistance (DCR): The DC resistance of the device.
Ratings: Minimum performance standards of the device, which are typically set by a third party.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Size / Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device, typically listed in Length and Width or Diameter.
Height - Seated (Max): Indicates how far the device will extend above the surface to which it has been attached.
Termination Style: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as gull wing, J lead, and terminal block.
