What is “E” seal and “N” seal when dealing with HD connectors. Here are the PN of the connectors HD-34-24-19SN and HD-34-24-19SE. The difference between these 2 connectors are the “N” and “S” and based on the data sheets they’re some type of seal

  • “N” stands for “Normal Position Wire Seals (green ring)”
  • “E” stands for “Extra Thin Wall Wire Seals (blue ring)”

This has implications for wire insulation diameter range. From information found on page number 152 of the ICT Terminals and Connectors Catalogue, the acceptable wire ranges for the two contact sizes are:

Size 16:

  • “N” type seal: 0.100 - 0.134 in (2.54 - 3.40 mm)
  • “E” type seal: 0.053 - 0.120 in (1.35 - 3.05 mm)

Size 12:

  • “N” type seal: 0.134 - 0.170 in (3.40 - 4.32 mm)
  • “E” type seal: 0.097 - 0.158 in (2.46 - 4.01 mm)
