ECS is a prominent supplier of timing products, including their ECX-32 series of timing crystals. We’ve had some questions recently concerning the orientation markings on the solder pads for this crystal series, and whether they’re supposed to show up on Pin 1 or Pin 4. Which is correct?
Per the supplier’s datasheet for this series, the bevel/chamfer that marks ‘Pin 1’ can be on either Pin 1 or Pin 4. See below:
The symmetricality of this crystal means it can work in either of the orientations which are possible for it to achieve on the board. You can flip it a hundred and eighty degrees and so long as the solder pads are still on the bottom, the crystal will work fine.
