Abracon, Crystal ABM8G-16.384MHZ-18-D2Y-T: Pin 1?

Among its other offerings, Abracon offers a diverse array of crystals to aid in timing circuits for your projects. One such crystal is ABM8G-16.384MHZ-18-D2Y-T. We’ve received some inquiries on this product asking where Pin 1 is, as the chamfer on the crystal’s pads that normally indicate Pin 1 can sometimes be found on Pin 4, instead. if this happens, how are you supposed to tell where Pin 1 is?

The answer is twofold. First of all, when looking at the device from the top down with its markings oriented for proper reading (i.e. left to right and rightside up), Pin 1 will always be in the lower left regardless of chamfer.

Second of all, it doesn’t matter. Per the product’s drawing, Pins 1 and 3 and Pins 2 and 4 are identical. This device can be reversed in its orientation on the pads freely without any impact on its function, as shown in the drawing snippet below:
