EMI/RFI Filters (LC, RC Networks)

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the EMI/RFI Filters (LC, RC Networks) category on DigiKey.com

Products in this family integrate several passive components into a single device in a manner designed to yield a frequency-dependent opposition to current flow. Though other types are available, a majority of them are of a low-pass type used to suppress the unwanted transmission of high-frequency signals, which might otherwise cause interference or undesired operation.

SelectionCharacteristics

Type: Indicates the function of the device.

Filter Order: The number of reactive elements used to construct a filter. Affects the “steepness” of a filter’s transition band frequency response.

Technology: Indicates if the product contains an LC circuit, an RC circuit, or both.

Number of Channels: Indicates how many lines can be filtered simultaneously.

Center/Cutoff Frequency: Describes the passband of the filter.

Attenuation Value: Characterizes the amount by which a filter reduces out-of-band signals and the test frequency (range) at which the characterization applies.

Resistance - Channel (Ohms): Characterizes the resistance of the primary signal path through the device.

Current: Typically this represents the maximum current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.

Values: Indicates the manufacturer’s rating of the resistive, inductive, and capacative components within the device.

ESD Protection: Indicates whether or not a device incorporates components to provide ESD protection for itself and/or other portions of the circuit in which the device is used.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device will be used in, they are tested and typically rated by a third party to ensure certain minimum standards for the application they are intended for.

Voltage - Rated: Typically this represents the maximum voltage rating to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this voltage rating may damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Size / Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device. Typically listed as length by width.

Height: Indicates how far the device will extend above the surface to which it has been attached.
