Force Sensors - Industrial

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Force Sensors - Industrial category on DigiKey.com

Industrial Force Sensors detect and respond to the presence or a change in the amount of pressure on their actuator, which can be a ball, button, diaphragm, flat membrane, plunger, or pushbutton. The three sensor types are force sensing resistor, load cell, and resistive. Their operating force ranges covering 0 to 1500 newtons (N), 0 to 22,680 kilograms force (kgf) or 0 to 50,000 pounds (lbs.), with output options of analog voltage, resistive, ratiometric, and voltage. These are made for use in an industrial setting.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which industrial force sensor is right for your application.

Operating Force: Describes the maximum force or force range over which a device is able to provide a valid measurement.

Output: Indicates the type of electrical signal the device provides, such as analog, digital, voltage, etc.

Sensor Type: Identifies the type of force sensor, such as load cell or resistive.

Accuracy: Typically listed as +/- and a percentage this is the maximum amount of variation in the force reading from the actual force that may exist.

Compensated Temperature: The temperature range over which the sensor will provide a valid measurement for an input of force, within manufacturer specified performance limits.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Actuator Type: The type of actuator used to measure the load, such as a switch or diaphragm.

Actuator Style/Size: Form factor of the device’s mechanical interface.

Includes: Everything included with the purchase of the product.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
