I was referred to ask tech questions here. I am trying to find a glass fuse for my fender squire champ 15 amp. I have looked everywhere and I can’t seem to find one. The numbers I can see on the fuse are on one side 51S and the other side 250v315mA. Inside of it looks like a conductor, it’s not a wire. Very different from what I have seen before. Anyways, any help with finding it or finding one that is compatible would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hello @MustangSally,
Welcome to the TechForum!
You fuse is likely in this subset.
To help narrow down the options, please provide:
- a picture of the fuse as installed in the amp
- a picture of the fuse alongside a ruler
- the model number or type of amplifier
Out of curiosity, was there an event that caused the fuse to open? While fuses do fail on rare occasion, there is usually a reason. Hopefully the amplifier is not damaged.
Sincerely,
APDahlen
Hi @MustangSally,
From what I can see, you have a glass cartridge fuse:
- 315 mA 250 V
- Slow blow
- 1/4" x 1-1/4"
Next Step: Please verify the length as 1-1/4" as I am inferring the size relative to your fingertips.
Assuming the size is correct, DigiKey has a single solution. Note that this is a marketplace product shipped from OptiFuse. “A separate $12.00 flat rate shipping fee will apply.”
Sincerely,
Aaron
P.S. Please see @rick_1976 comment below as I could be wrong on the size.
Another common format is 5x20mm, which has a visibly narrower spacing between endcaps than the 1/4 x 1-1/4" (also known as 3AG) flavor. In that case, there are several options in stock that would meet the description above.
Good morning @rick_1976,
I’m stumped on this one.
It’s very close to a 10.3 × 38.1 mm 5AG “midget” fuse. However, my 'net searches come back negative.
The closest match I’ve found is this OptiFuse TPK-R-300MA industrial fuse. It’s a poor match as it jumps class and has a lower current rating.
Cordially,
Aaron
P.S. Looping in @PaulHutch and @David_1528 as they both love a good challenge.
Rick says I need some coffee…
Thank you @PaulHutch
Hello @MustangSally,
After my morning blunder and highly embarrassing answer, please refer to the post by @rick_1976 in this thread.
Hi MustangSally,
I did identify your specific fuse as the 51S series by Hollyland, catalog page found here.
The only question I had was whether it used the European IEC 60127-2 standard (more common for the 5x20mm form factor) or North American UL/CSA 248-14 standard rating system for current. The two standards bodies specify the breaking characteristics over time differently, so one should try to use replacement fuses from the same standard, if possible.
From that catalog link I found above, it is the UL/CSA 248-14 standard:
Therefore, here’s a list of the subset of the 5x20mm slow-blow 315mA fuses which meet the UL/CSA 248-14 standard.
- BK/GMD-315-R FUSE GLASS 315MA 250VAC Slow Blow 5X20MM UL/CSA 248-14
- 0034.3769 FUSE GLASS 315MA 250VAC Slow Blow 5X20MM UL/CSA 248-14
Thank you everyone for all your help. I appreciate it.
