Hall effect sensor

Hi

Most of the sensor on the websites are dia 12 mm. Due to space limitation I can dril only dia 6 mm hole for the magnet. Is anyone producing smaller head sensors? Something like Littlefuse 55075 but smaller. Pls advise./ik

Hello irekkool,
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.
I’m sorry, but I do not see a 6mm diameter threaded Hall Effect sensor, on the DigiKey Website. You may have to check on the different manufacture’s websites, to see if they are producing a smaller version of this type of Hall Effect sensor.

Hi irekkool,

You are mentioning the use of a magnet, but the 55075-00-02-A is intended for geartooth sensing applications.

What is the intended purpose for your sensor?

Here and here are preliminary filtered lists of devices which you may wish to consider, depending on your actual application. Not all of these are based on Hall technology. Note that these are located within two different categories (“Position, Proximity, Speed (Modules)” and “Position, Proximity, Speed (Modules) - Industrial” due to the current theory of taxonomy here. I haven’t filtered all for your size requirement, but have removed some which are definitely too large.

Thx David yr email. What I need is to count the number of revolutions (if possible u/down counting) that are made by anchor handling winch on my boat. Each turn of the anchor wheel means 1 ft of chain going in the water. I had old system based Hall sensor and dia 6 mm magnetic puck. Can’t find a replacement on the market. All sensors seem to have dia 12 mm on the head. My winch can take a mx dia 6 mm - see photo. Is there someone who is producing the Hall sensor that I could contact and see if they can make a sensor suitable for my needs? Note, my old sensor and digital counter came from DigiKey in China thru Alibaba./ik

Hi
Pls see attached photo of my existing arrangement./ik

Hi David
Could you provide some feedback on the following:

  1. If I use Reeds Switch (as below), will it work if only a 6 mm dia magnet is placed on the wheel as an actuator? I do not have space for actuator as large as shown below,

  2. In my old system Hall sensor had three wires going out and to the counter. I guess I will need another type of counter to work with the Reeds switch. Can you offer a matching counter, preferably up/down,

  3. My existing diagram of connections is in the attachment. Can and how it should be altered to work with Reeds switch?/ik

Hi David
I am going through the catalogue that you have sent me and have some questions. It looks like flat Hall sensors, such as the one below, have much smaller sizes. Can I use sensor as below with a magnetic pack dia 6 mm properly aligned to the center of the sensor, which 7.6 mm? Do they come also as 3 wires sensors? Or I will need a different counter display? Will that work on my winch, photo already send to you./ik
