HARTING has recently introduced their new Product Configurators for many of their different connector offerings, making it easier than ever to specify the modular components to create a customized connector solution.
HARTING offers a visual guide to using their Configurator tools, here: HARTING Configurator Tool Visual Guide. For further information, read on.
HARTING offers four configurators, each tuned to a different product type. The first configurator is their Industrial Connectors configurator, used to identify and specify heavy duty connector assemblies. These devices can be configured modularly, including pneumatic lines for air, coaxial and fiber lines for high-speed data, small signal electronics, power electronics, and more.
The recommended method from HARTING, if specifying a device for a new project, is to use the Solution Wizard. This allows you to input the number and type of desired connections before updating you with a list of options that will suit your needs. Note that this tool updates available choices in real time - if you make a selection that invalidates other options, those options will not be available within the wizard. This might mean your specific desired configuration is not immediately available, in which case you can try splitting the connection across multiple connectors such as splitting your power lines out from the other connections you need. Or you can contact HARTING and see if your specific requirement can be engineered for you.
The other method the configurator offers is a step by step builder that allows you to select each piece of the connector individually from a list of options. This version of the configurator is more useful for exploring the various offerings within HARTING’s portfolio and determining what options are available for your project if the specifications are still in flux.
The second available configurator tool is the High Power Configurator, specifically for high-power devices ranging from 250A up to 800A.
This configurator does not have a solution wizard, as this product type is simpler. Instead, you can assemble a complete connection system including both hood and base as well as the requisite insert for both. The configurator will provide all the part numbers needed at once, simplifying the ordering process.
The third available configurator tool is the Circular Connector Configurator, which offers options in M17, M23, and ICC circular devices. Like the High Power configurator, this is a simpler tool with no solution wizard that provides both the cable-side and device-side housings and inserts required to form a complete connector pair.
There is also an M12 Cable Assembly configurator available, to produce orderable numbers for unshielded and overmolded M12 cable assemblies to work alongside the configurator for larger connector pairs.
The final configurator available is for the har-modular® system, a highly modular board-to-board system designed to get all of your necessary interconnects into a single place and part number.
Tech Tip: Custom labeling of a switch or connector is available within the configurator tools.
