How do I follow a particular subject, company, or field of study?

How can I be notified of posts that fit the description of what I want to see?

Have you ever wondered if you could get a notification to let you know there is new content regarding your favorite topics? Maybe you’re an expert regarding one or two things and would be happy to help but just couldn’t don’t have the time to sort through all the new questions to find them? Perhaps you’re a supplier that would like to answer questions that arise on your products need a way to be notified when they come in?

There is a way to do all of these things on our TechForum in just a couple of easy steps using tags.

What are Tags?

Tags are words that have been associated with a post to help in the process of sorting, searching, and grouping content in useful ways.

How do I know what Tags are available to use?

In the upper right-hand side of this screen, you should see this button.

If you were to click this button a drop down window should appear that looks a little like this. We are especially interested in the “Tags” selection and should click on it.

This will bring us to a page filled with the many tags that are used on our TechForum.

How does this help me get notifications?

Here you can use these tags to do what I promised. Lets go through an example together.

Example:

Let us say you are a 3d printing enthusiast. You would like to be notified every time there is a new post regarding 3d printing. We will go and find the tag.

After we click on the tag, we will be given a results page that shows all posts that utilize it. Now in the upper right-hand corner of this page we will see a bell.

If we were to click on that bell another drop-down menu would show. This shows us our notification options.

I don’t know if I want to click each tag one at a time. Is there another way to do this?

Why, as a matter of fact there is. I am glad you asked. Let’s click on the picture that represents us in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Here we will select the tab represented by a shadow of a man. Then click on preferences.

This will bring us into our preferences as the name would suggest. Once here we can click on Tags.

On this page we can enter the tags we wish to watch, track, or mute all in the same place.

Equipped with new tools.

As you can see this would be good for following a particular field, but it could also be used to track a particular supplier and all of their mentions, or it could be used to follow a product type like LED’s.

I do hope that this helps you to get some extra functionality that you may not have otherwise known was available to you!
