HP Laptop that chargers but doesn't power on

I have a laptop I’m trying to repair and I fixed a bad mosfet thanks to the help from here I now see a charger light and power light which I didn’t see before.

Now the laptop doesn’t power on still. I want to make sure I’m looking at this right, under a thermal camera I see a step down buck converter that’s lighting up under my thermal camera. I am wondering if this is normal for it, but I was wondering what I should also be checking for on the board that could help with pinpointing the possible culprit as I’ve gone from no charging light, to a charging light but still doesn’t power on.

The only markings on the buck is awvgpa. From reading around it may possibly be a Silergy SY8286B.

The laptop is a HP 17-cp3005dx, I know not super expensive but it’s a device I’d like to get working again as it’s a great way to learn more about repairing devices and diagnosing them better.

I can provide anything needed and hope I posted this in the right forum thread.

Hello,

Is there any way you could add a few images or video of what you are seeing and testing? this may give someone a better idea on this situation you are facing.

Thank you
Ryan

Sure I can do that, I’m also going to add that I wonder too if the rt3662ar chip just above is causing the mosfet to not open the gate as I get 19v on the input but nothing on the gate and the mosfet is new. I’ll add some pics.

I forgot to actually attach the photos lol here they are.

Hello KyleStilkey,

I’m not good at troubleshooting, but one of the engineers on the TechForum may be able to help.

You said the RT3662AR chip may be involved. Do you have a larger view of that side of the board, showing the Mosfet and the RT3662AR chip, so they can see what traces may be driving or powering the mosfet?
