IEC Standards for 5x20mm Fuse Part Markings

Any 5x20mm fuse that is designed to IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) specification will have a standardized format for part markings. This marking, normally found on the end cap of the fuse, is not to be confused with the mfg part number. This is an IEC marking that specifies which fuse characteristics the fuse has such as speed of response, current rating and voltage rating.

Using T2AL250V as an example:

The “T” indicates a time-delay, or slow-blow, fuse. Which means the fuse can handle temporary surges in current without blowing.
The “2A” refers to the current rating, so it is designed to handle up to 2 amps continuously.
The “L” denotes a low-breaking capacity fuse, which are suitable for circuits that don’t generate high fault circuits.
The “250V” indicates the voltage rating of the fuse, which means the this fuse can safely be used in circuits up to 250V.
