Interface Modules

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Interface Modules category on DigiKey.com

Terminal block interface modules are devices used to connect I/O cards and equipment together. They are typically found in industrial applications. The modules consist of a control and process connector or terminal block and typically another device such as a circuit breaker, fuse, led, etc. on a single rail mounted circuit board. Connection types include: D-sub, RJ45, rectangular, card edge, and more.

SelectionCharacteristics

Process Side Connection: Describes the type of connector present on the side of the module intended to connect to field wiring or controlled devices/processes.

Control Side Connection: Describes the connector on the side of the adapter that typically connects to a control or measurement system of some type.

Control Side Cable Retainer: Indicates connector retention mechanism on the portion of a module intended to connect to a PLC or similar control system.

Positions / Poles: The total number of electrical conductors the device has.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as board circuit breaker, diode, or lever.

Voltage - Rated: Typically this represents the maximum voltage rating to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this voltage rating may damage the device and other system components.

Current Rating (Per Contact): Indicates the rated maximum current carrying capacity of any individual contact or circuit within the device. May be subject to de-rating based on combined total current flow through all circuits.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Length: Indicates the overall length of the device.

Width: Indicates the overall width of the device.

Wire Gauge: The wire size or size range with which a product is designed for use, typically expressed in terms of AWG (American Wire Gauge).
