LED panel light indicators

Hi,
I must replace few of my boat 12v LED panel light indicators. (see attachment).
My main issue is to choose the suitable MCD brightness LED. (bright enough to notice but not too bright)
Please advise the most suitable ones.

Welcome to the forum.

There are so many factors that go into human perception of brightness that it is impossible to know what LED brightness will work best for this application.

The most important ones are:

  • Ambient light conditions
  • Spectral sensitivity of your eyes
  • Brightness sensitivity of your eyes

Because of these factors you have a few ways to meet your requirement.

  1. Buy a variety of LEDs and try them out
  2. Buy the brightest LEDs available and adjust the series resistor value until they are no longer too bright to your eyes
  3. Find the manufacturer and part number of the existing LEDs and either buy that model, or a different make/model that matches the intensity, viewing angle and color wavelength (all of those affect the perception of brightness)
