Technically, it depends on what countries’ copyright laws you need to follow. Practically, most countries are like the USA for this aspect of copyright law.
In the USA any work not specifically released to the public domain has copyright protection. (e.g. the finger painting of a two year old child has copyright protection)
However, without a copyright notice, the copyright owner can not claim monetary damages. The owner is limited to making you stop using their work via the courts.

I believe that’s intended to be a release to the public domain statement.
As far as I know, most US intellectual property lawyers will say it’s OK to use.
However some US intellectual property lawyers will say there must be a more formal statement like CC0 before you use it.
You’ll need to ask your companies IP lawyer for guidance.
