I’m currently restoring a vintage Hi-fi audio amplifier and I have to replace a specific component which is a Matsushita 2SB941R. It seems that this component is not fabricated anymore and AFAIK there is no matching modern replacement for it. It is possible to find some on Ebay but I’m kind of reluctant with this option for 2 reasons: one, lots of counterfeited or untraceable stuff on ebay and two, the ones that look serious even if 2SB941 are not matching as they don’t have the HFE1 rank classification i’m looking for. I’m looking for the “R” HFE1 rank.

If you have no luck finding one anywhere, my best recommendation would be to replace it and its complementary transistor, the 2SD1266 (I presume that’s also on your board), with a different matching pair.

To use these, you may have to tweak the biasing components a bit to make it work optimally, but they are at least in the ballpark of the originals, specification-wise.
Hi, thank you for your answers. In the meanwhile I got more information. The “R” code was apparently an OEM rank code established between components manufacturers (matsushita/panasonic in my case, see picture) and Japanese electronic appliances manufacturers in the 80s (Sony, Kenwood, Technics…). This version was not available on the general market.
This specific 2SB941/R matches with the 2SB941/P with a gain range of 120 - 250 as described on the panasonic datasheet concerning the component available on the general market. So this is the exact one I’m looking for. Is there anyway for DigiKey to supply this panasonic little guy?
As @Jeff_2258 stated, it doesn’t look like Panasonic has made that part for many years.
I think your only chance to get that part would be via ebay, with all the associated risks, or parting out old equipment.
That’s why I mentioned those alternate options. Picking a set of alternate matching pairs might be your only solution if you can’t find some old parts somewhere.
