M.2 - FRDM-IMX93

------Question for FRDM-IMX93 Please Put your question below------

Hello,

I am currently evaluating the FRDM-i.MX93 Development Board and would like to clarify one technical detail:

Does the FRDM-i.MX93 board provide an accessible M.2 interface (e.g. Key E or Key M)?

Specifically, I would like to know:

  • Whether an M.2 connector is physically present on the board

  • Or if the required signals (PCIe / USB / SDIO) are only available internally and would require hardware modification or rework

  • Whether the M.2 interface is officially supported for expansion modules (e.g. Wi-Fi / BT)

The documentation mentions various interfaces, but it is not entirely clear whether an M.2 slot is actually populated or usable out of the box.

Thank you in advance for your clarification.

Best regards

Thank you for your inquiry.

NXP indicates the M.2 socket is DNP, which means Do Not Populate. The board doesn’t come standard with that connector. If it was installed it would be Key E.

Hello torsten.lauter,

Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.

The Datasheet shows it has a M.2, Key-E slot on the board. It also says: One M.2/NGFF Key E mini card 75-pin connector, P8, supporting USB, SDIO, SAI, UART, I2C, and Vendor-defined SPI interfaces Note: By default, these signals are connected with the onboard Wi-Fi module, however, to use this M.2 slot, you must rework resistors (see Table 15 ).

So the M.2 Key E slot is physically mounted on the bottom side of the board, but it sounds like it is not accessible, out of the box, without a rework of the Resistors.

Please check the Datasheet for this and other information on the M.2 compatibility.
