This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Machine Safety - Laser Scanners category on DigiKey.com
Laser scanners establish a safety zone in hazardous environments for human workers. As a worker approaches a machine or system, laser scanners can stop or slow down the operation ensuring safety. Additionally, laser scanners are used in collision avoidance in automated guided vehicles (AGV) as an added measure of safety for human operators.
SelectionCharacteristics
Protection Range: When an obstacle is detected in this zone main actuator state is changed.
Warning Range: When an obstacle is detected in this zone warning signals are outputted.
Number of Outputs and Type: Indicates the number of control outputs provided by a device and identifies the manner of their implementation.
Sensing Angle: Indicates the degrees of sensing view around the device.
Detection Capability: The resolution the device is able to sense obstructions.
Number of Monitor Fields: Number of areas within the range of the device that are tracked and can provide a unique output.
Response Time: The amount of time it takes for the sensor to respond to a change in input.
Safety Category: Standard(s) of safety assurance a device is designed to meet or support; Category (x) PL(Performance Level)x and SIL(Safety Integrity Level)x have specific meanings defined by various standards organizations.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as including brackets or a cable.
