Magnetic Sensors - Position, Proximity, Speed (Modules) - Industrial

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Magnetic Sensors - Position, Proximity, Speed (Modules) - Industrial category on DigiKey.com

Industrial Position, Proximity, and Speed Module sensors are used to detect the presence, absence, or motion of an object and respond to the presence, absence, or motion of a magnetic field. Operates with either a north or south pole depending on the device. The type of modules include ball switch, bipolar switch, hall effect, logic magnetic pickup, omnipolar, potentiometer, reed switch, unipolar switch, and VRS. These are made for use in an industrial setting.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which industrial position, proximity, or speed sensor module is right for your application.

Type: The technology that is used by the module.

Output Type: Indicates the type of electrical signal the device provides, such as analog, digital, voltage, etc.

Actuator Material: The material that the actuator is constructed from.

Termination Style: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as PC pins, wire leads, quick connect, etc.

Frequency: Typically this is the number of times the sensor can turn on and off in one second.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Must Operate: The maximum applied field strength (minimum separation distance with a specified actuator) required to actuate a magnetic sensor.

Must Release: The minimum applied magnetic field strength (maximum separation distance with a specified actuator) at which a sensor must return to an inactive state.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
