Compass and Magnetic Field Module sensors are devices designed to detect and respond to the presence of a magnetic field. Items in this family are designed for dead reckoning, digital compass, or a digital magnetometer in the X, Y, Z axis. They are used for measuring heading, pitch and roll, and strength or direction with a measuring range of ±0.9 gauss, ±1 gauss, ±180µT, ±2 gauss, or ±700 mgauss.
SelectionCharacteristics
Specifications to determine which compass or magnetic field module is right for your application.
Type: How the module is setup to evaluate the magnetic field.
Axis: Identifies the number of orthogonal planes in 3-dimensional space for which a device provides a sensing or input capability.
Measuring Range: Characterizes the limits of an input variable within which a device is capable of making valid measurements.
For Measuring: Indicates the quantity, process parameter, or other variable(s) that a device is intended to measure.
Resolution: The smallest change in the magnetic field that can be detected by the module.
Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
Interface: Indication of which interface(s) or protocol(s) are used by the device to communicate with other components in the system.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
