I am currently using M12A-04PFFP-SF8001 in a PCB design and it works acceptably except for one issue. The connector and/or the pins are too short. When the connector is fastened to the panel and the PCB is fastened in place, the pins of the M12 connectors barely protrude through the PCB. Can anyone recommend a connector of this type with longer pins or a longer body that will allow the pins to protrude through the PCB further.
Hi and welcome to the forum! Looking over our options, here’s what I found:
839-54-00235-ND has slightly longer pins, 6.5mm total length with the thinner portion being 3.0mm if that is critical, full drawing linked here: Tensility Tech Drawing
277-8105-ND has similar dimensions, drawing linked here: Phoenix Tech Drawing
Hopefully one of these works for you!
Thanks for looking into this. I think the Tensility part may work for our application. I was hoping for a bit more length, but perhaps this will be alright. I forwarded the drawing on to our mechanical engineers to evaluate.
…along similar lines, I now have the exact same issue as described in my original post with some 12 pin M12 connectors from TE (T4141012121-000). Can anyone recommend a PCB/Panel mount M12.12 connector with longer pins than the TE part ? I looked at Tensility’s offering on DK but didn’t find anything available. The connector in question is a receptacle with female sockets.
Hi Jclack,
I was unable to find anything that had longer pins. HERE is a list of some alternatives that we have but upon looking through some of these datasheets I couldn’t find any that have pins that are longer than the T4141012121-000.
I could be wrong on this, hopefully this was helpful. If you don’t find anything I would suggest creating a new TechForum post to get more eyes on your question and hopefully someone can find a solution to what you’re looking for.
thanks for looking into it
Hello Mr. jclack,
These may be terrible ideas, but have you considered either adding a washer between the O-ring and the rear hex “shield” of the connector to extend the part rear-ward by the width of the washer, or using a part with wire leads rather than pc pins and cutting and stripping to length?
Wire-leaded M12A-12PFFS-SF8C15
Of course, the first option could compromise the electrical/fluid seal to the panel, and the second is obviously very labor intensive and not conducive to volume production.
Neither of these are good solutions, but I haven’t seen any rear-mount parts with longer body or pins either, so I am just trying to come up with a hack for you.
