ON Semiconductor, TBG vs TCG Suffixes

When searching for ON Semiconductor parts such as NCP114AMX330TCG, you may find other parts with a TBG suffix, instead. The datasheet doesn’t indicate any difference, and yet a difference there is. What is it?

The answer is in ON Semi’s Tape and Reel Packaging Standards document, and has to do with the part’s orientation within the reel. ‘TBG’ indicates that Pin 1 of the part is in the upper-right corner of its pocket on the reel, while ‘TCG’ indicates the part is flipped 180 degrees, with Pin 1 in the lower-left corner. There’s no other significance to this part numbering switch; the parts themselves are identical in every respect.
