Why is there a middle pad in the LED? The other two pads are for cathode and Anode and the use case of third pad is no where mentioned in datasheet

Being a normal power range LED indicator it shouldn’t be needed for heat removal, and it’s targeted for automotive/wearables/industrial use, so I think it’s for mechanical strength/vibration resistance.

@PaulHutch is exactly right. There isn’t much contact area with just the anode and cathode contacts to hold the part down reliably, so they add the third solder contact to add mechanical strength.
