PCB Builder ODB++ Files Are Not Allowed

A common rejection we are seeing with the PCB Builder is the error of “two different data types”, meaning the zip files have Gerbers plus assembly files. The most common of these is the ODB++ file type.

ODB++ is an exclusive CAD-to-CAM data exchange format, essential in the intricate realm of electronic device design and manufacturing. Its primary objective is to facilitate the exchange of critical printed circuit board design information between design and manufacturing tools offered by various EDA/ECAD vendors.

The scope of ODB++ extends beyond the mere representation of conductor layer artwork and drill data. It encompasses aspects such as material stack-up, netlist replete with test points, component bill of materials, component placement, fabrication data, and dimensional specifics.

At present, ODB++ files cannot be processed within our builder platform. Therefore, it is imperative that these files are removed before you can proceed with the upload to the builder. You have two viable options at your disposal: either eliminate the ODB files and assembly files or extract the Gerber and Drill files.

To illustrate, if you have a board file containing ODB files, delve deeper, and you will find two distinct sets of folders. The file names have been altered for clarity, and the naming convention may vary from what you are accustomed to.

The ODB files can be omitted from the equation, or you can opt to isolate the GerberFolder.

It is crucial to ensure that your Gerber file comprises exclusively Gerber files and Drill files, without any superfluous assembly instructions, as our PCB Builder does not accommodate assembly services.

Once you have successfully separated the Gerber and drill files from the rest, you should be ready to proceed with the upload into the builder platform.

If this process isn’t suitable for your needs or if you believe that the error is occurring in error, please don’t hesitate to share your concerns, and we will make every effort to assist you.
