Polarity standard for JST PH connectors on LiPo batteries

We’re planning on using a single cell LiPo battery on a new product, likely this one:

Can you tell me if there is a standard for the polarity of the pins on these connectors when used with LiPo batteries? I’ve seen images showing both polarities, and want to ensure that I use the standard, or at least most common configuration.

Also, can you show which way the housing plugs into the right-angle connector? It’s not clear from the data sheet, and again I want to ensure that I have the correct polarity.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey mak,

I have no idea if there is an official standard for polarity of pins on the JST PH connector used for LiPo batteries, but just based on the images of the various options from both Adafruit and Sparkfun, those two seem to be consistent.

For both of them, if looking straight on toward the mating face of the wire-mounted connector with female contacts, with the narrow center-line polarizing bump on top, the positive red wire will be on the right, as seen in the image below.

Regarding how the wire-mount connector mates to the board-mount right angle connector, the key is to note the polarizing center-line bump on the wire-mount connector and the matching groove in the board-mount mate. That groove is on top on the board-mount connector, so the polarity of that connector for Adafruit and Sparkfun would seem to be as indicated below:

Hi David,

Thanks; this is a huge help. Knowing that Adafruit and Sparkfun are consistent at least gives me a starting point. Again, thanks!
