Purpose of this resistor

I’m trying to develop a BMS, and I am a little unsure of the purpose of this PACK resistor.

It says its an alternative power source, so why would there be a resistor there?

Here is the datasheet.

Hi @tomz0840 ,

I guess this is for limiting discharge current. BQ29330 turns the discharge FET OFF by shorting the DSG pin to PACK pin. Gate capacitance of that FET will cause excessive sharp discharge current if not limited.

Cheers, heke

Hello @heke,

Perhaps protection against reverse polarity. The MOSFET in the OPs original post would protect everything to the right. Perhaps the resistor is used to protect the PACK input.

Thoughts?

Sincerely,

Aaron

I can’t find an exact limit on the max discharge current through the IC. We would want it to be as fast as possible to prevent any SC conditions, without causing any damage to the chip itself.

@APDahlen if it were for reverse polarity, why not have a diode instead then?
