Hey All,
Hope you all had a Happy New Year!
So I managed to wire up my blower fan to a rotary switch and got it working as a shop fan. Now I’m trying to find a way to wire a remote control to it so I can mount it on the ceiling and not have to climb a ladder every time I adjust the speed.
I found a few “Universal Fan” speed remotes but they have “Light/Fan Speed 1/Fan Speed 2” which I don’t think will work for me. Another issue I ran into with these universal fan setting is they require me to wire the common and hot wire straight to them.
So any recommendations would help. My blower fan has White, Black, Blue, and Red. My wall wire has Black and White. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Hello,
There are resources online that show how to hook up basic ceiling fans to a remote but not specifically a blower fan that you’re saying has a 4 wire connection.
Can you provide the part number of the fan you’re wanting to hook up to a remote?
We have a remote control category in our RF Receiver, Transmitter, and Transceiver Finished Units category but most here don’t seem to be the right kind.
Regards,
Hi CigarArmoring,
Might be tricky to find something capable of that. A few of the devices in the link that @Irfan_Koric provided have 4 relays, which could be used to do this, except that they do not have the intelligence to only allow one relay to be active at a time. This would mean that more than one of the wires might be energized at once, which could cause problems and might even be dangerous.
An alternative would be to run a second 2-conductor electrical cable down from the fan to where your switch is and use the conductors from both cables to wire your switch as before.
If you would rather not go that route, then I would suggest you find a fan remote controller first and then use a fan that is specifically designed to work with it.
